Xbox Design Chief Carl Ledbetter on Xbox’s New IKEA Collaboration

Xbox design chief Carl Ledbetter has highlighted a major new collaboration between Microsoft’s Xbox team and IKEA, bringing gaming-inspired furniture and accessories into the home as Xbox celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The new YXSTABY collection features a range of products inspired by the Xbox brand and its iconic controller design, including a giant thumbstick-shaped stool, a D-pad-inspired accessory dish, furniture with gaming storage and Xbox-themed home decor. The collection is designed to blend gaming into everyday living spaces rather than look like traditional gaming furniture.

Xbox Gaming Meets IKEA Design

The collaboration brings together IKEA’s Scandinavian home-design approach and Xbox’s gaming identity. The nine-piece collection includes a TV stand, side table, lounge chair, storage solutions and several accessories with subtle Xbox-inspired details.

One of the most unusual products is a thumbstick-inspired stool developed using original 3D design files from the Xbox controller.

Carl Ledbetter’s Influence on Xbox Hardware

Ledbetter has played a major role in Microsoft hardware design for decades and has contributed to several Xbox generations. His work has included the industrial design of Xbox consoles and accessories, with a focus on making technology functional while allowing it to fit naturally into people’s homes.
