Apple’s Camera-Equipped AirPods Leak in macOS 26.7, Showing Visual Intelligence in Action
Apple’s long-rumored camera-equipped AirPods have received their clearest leak yet, after a short demonstration video was discovered inside the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate. The footage appears to show how Apple could use cameras built into AirPods to give Siri and Visual Intelligence a view of the user’s surroundings.
In the brief demonstration, a person wearing what appear to be AirPods holds up a book so the earbuds can see its title. A voiceover explains that Visual Intelligence can make information from the user’s surroundings “savable,” allowing the user to ask Siri to remember something they are looking at.
AirPods Could See the World Around You
The leaked video suggests the cameras may be designed primarily as a way to provide visual information to Apple’s AI features, rather than simply functioning as cameras for taking photographs.
The concept would allow users to point their head toward an object and use Siri or Visual Intelligence to identify, remember or retrieve information about it. The earbuds themselves appear similar to current AirPods Pro models, although their stems look somewhat thicker.
Apple has reportedly been developing the device under the internal identifier B790. The camera-equipped AirPods are expected to use infrared sensors and AI capabilities to understand the user’s surroundings and potentially track head movements.
macOS 26.7 Reveals More Apple Hardware
The AirPods video isn’t the only clue found in macOS Tahoe 26.7. Apple’s latest software also contains references to several unreleased products, including upcoming iPhone, iPad, Mac and home devices.
That makes the accidental video particularly interesting because it appears to be an Apple-produced demonstration rather than a third-party concept or render.
Apple has not officially announced camera-equipped AirPods, and the company has not confirmed a release date.
When Could Camera AirPods Launch?
Earlier reports suggested Apple’s camera AirPods could arrive as soon as September 2026, although another possibility is a later launch alongside Apple’s 2027 hardware lineup. MacRumors has previously reported that Apple may need additional time to develop the visual AI technology required for the product.
If Apple brings the technology to market, the product could represent a significant evolution of AirPods—from wireless headphones into an AI-powered wearable device capable of understanding the user’s surroundings.
The leaked demonstration therefore provides an intriguing glimpse at how Apple could integrate AI into everyday hardware without requiring users to constantly look at a phone or another screen.
