Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton remains hospitalized after a serious mental health crisis earlier this week, with his family saying he faces a long recovery.

Hilton was hospitalized on August 4 after viewers contacted authorities during a TikTok livestream in which he appeared to engage in self-harm. Miami-Dade authorities responded to his Miami home and later transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment.

In a statement released Saturday, Hilton’s family said he remains hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act and described his condition as serious but stable. The family said he suffered significant blood loss and injuries that require surgery, while emphasizing that his recovery will be a lengthy process.

The family also said Hilton’s communication has been limited to close relatives, medical professionals and others directly involved in his care. They asked the public and media to respect the family’s privacy as he continues treatment and recovery.

Hilton’s family has previously confirmed that he is able to communicate, which they said has given them hope. They have thanked supporters for their messages and urged people to rely only on official updates from Hilton’s website rather than unconfirmed reports circulating online.

The incident has also raised questions about social media platforms’ handling of mental health emergencies after the livestream circulated online. TikTok subsequently banned Hilton’s account, while the company has faced criticism over how quickly the content was removed.

Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., became widely known through his celebrity gossip website and later expanded into television, podcasting and social media. For now, his family says the focus remains on his treatment and long-term recovery.
