Dave Bautista Reportedly in Talks to Play Kratos in Amazon’s ‘God of War’ Series

Actor Dave Bautista is reportedly in talks to take over the role of Kratos in Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action God of War series following Ryan Hurst’s departure due to an on-set injury.

According to Deadline, Bautista is negotiating to replace Hurst, who suffered a torn bicep while performing a stunt during production. The injury required surgery and a lengthy recovery, prompting the studio to recast the lead role rather than delay filming into 2027.

Hurst had already completed several episodes before production was halted. If Bautista’s deal is finalized, he is expected to reshoot those scenes as the iconic Spartan warrior Kratos.

The God of War series is based on Sony’s acclaimed video game franchise and follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they journey through the Norse realms to fulfill the final wish of Kratos’ late wife, Faye. Ronald D. Moore serves as the show’s creator and showrunner, and Amazon has already ordered a second season.

Bautista, best known for his roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Dune, and Knock at the Cabin, has long been considered a fan-favorite choice to portray Kratos due to his imposing physical presence and action experience.

Amazon has not officially confirmed Bautista’s casting, but the reported negotiations have generated excitement among fans eager to see the beloved PlayStation franchise adapted for television.
