Nvidia Stock Loses $130 Billion in Market Value as $500 Billion AI Financing Deal Emerges

Nvidia shares fell sharply on Monday, wiping roughly $130 billion from the company’s market value as investors reacted to reports that the chipmaker is working with major Wall Street firms on a massive financing initiative for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Nvidia’s stock briefly dropped more than 3% following reports that the company was partnering with financial giants including BlackRock and other investment firms on a deal targeting as much as $500 billion in AI-related financing.

The reported initiative would involve major financial institutions providing capital to support the construction and expansion of AI data centers and computing infrastructure. The group involved reportedly includes Apollo Global Management, Blackstone, BlackRock, Brookfield Asset Management, Goldman Sachs and KKR.

The scale of the proposed financing highlights the enormous amount of capital expected to be required as technology companies and cloud providers race to expand their AI computing capacity. Nvidia has become a central player in that expansion because its graphics processors and AI accelerators power many of the world’s largest AI systems.

However, the financing plans also raised concerns among investors about the risks involved in funding such a massive expansion. Some analysts have questioned whether the rapid growth of AI infrastructure spending could create financial risks if demand for computing capacity fails to meet expectations.

The reported agreements are not yet final. Nvidia and the participating financial firms have signed memorandums of understanding outlining plans to explore the financing arrangements, but the companies still need to finalize the details.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has continued to argue that the world is entering a new phase of AI infrastructure development, with so-called “AI factories” expected to become a major part of the global technology economy.

The market reaction demonstrates how closely investors are watching Nvidia’s role in the AI boom. The company has become one of the world’s most valuable businesses as demand for its AI chips has surged, but its stock remains sensitive to concerns about valuation, spending and the sustainability of the AI investment cycle.

With hundreds of billions of dollars potentially flowing into new AI infrastructure, Nvidia’s financing strategy could have major implications for the broader technology and financial markets.
