Bangladesh Make History With First-Ever Test Win in Australia

Bangladesh have created history by defeating Australia by nine wickets in the first Test in Darwin, securing their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil.

The historic victory was built around an outstanding all-round performance from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and a superb bowling display from Hasan Mahmud, as Bangladesh stunned the top-ranked Australians inside four days.

Australia were bowled out for just 198 in their first innings, with Hasan Mahmud producing career-best figures of 6-55. Bangladesh responded with 426, establishing a commanding position in the match.

Australia fought back through Cameron Green, who scored a determined 104, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz ripped through the Australian batting lineup with a five-wicket haul. Australia were eventually dismissed for 284, leaving Bangladesh with only 57 runs to win.

Bangladesh completed the chase for the loss of just one wicket, with Mominul Haque hitting the winning boundary to seal one of the biggest victories in the country’s Test history.

The result is particularly significant because it marks Bangladesh’s first Test win in Australia and only their second Test victory over Australia overall. Bangladesh had previously defeated Australia in a Test in Dhaka in 2017.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was central to the triumph, scoring 65 runs and later taking five wickets in Australia’s second innings. Hasan Mahmud was named Player of the Match after finishing with nine wickets across the two innings.

Australia’s defeat is a major upset for a side that came into the match as the world’s top-ranked Test team. Captain Pat Cummins acknowledged that Bangladesh had outplayed Australia across the match.

The victory gives Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series and provides the team with an opportunity to achieve an even bigger milestone by winning the series outright.
