Quillan Salkilld Stuns Mateusz Gamrot With First-Round Submission at UFC Fight Night

Quillan Salkilld delivered the biggest win of his UFC career on Saturday, submitting veteran lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot in the first round of the UFC Fight Night main event in Las Vegas.

Salkilld secured the victory with a rear-naked choke at 4:25 of the opening round, forcing Gamrot to tap after taking control of the fight on the ground. The Australian remained composed against one of the division’s most accomplished grapplers before turning the tables and finishing the fight.

The victory extends Salkilld’s UFC winning streak to six fights and his overall winning streak to 13, further establishing him as one of the lightweight division’s fastest-rising contenders. The 26-year-old entered the fight undefeated in the UFC and had already built a reputation for quick finishes.

Gamrot attempted to use his wrestling and grappling experience early, but Salkilld successfully defended the veteran’s attacks before finding his own opportunities. After scoring a takedown, Salkilld quickly took Gamrot’s back and locked in the decisive choke.

The impressive performance could move Salkilld into the upper tier of the UFC lightweight rankings. After the fight, the Australian called for a matchup against a top-five opponent, signaling his ambitions to compete for the division’s championship.

The result also represents a major setback for Gamrot, who entered the bout as an experienced contender and one of the division’s strongest grapplers. Salkilld’s ability to beat him at his own game has immediately raised expectations for the Australian’s future in the UFC.
