‘The Sopranos’ Star Vincent Pastore Dies at 80

Veteran actor Vincent Pastore, best known for his unforgettable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80.

Pastore was found at his home on City Island in the Bronx, New York, after friends and colleagues had not heard from him for several days. His longtime manager, Bob McGowan, confirmed the news, saying he learned of the actor’s passing from fellow The Sopranos cast member Vincent Curatola.

A familiar face in Hollywood, Pastore built a career playing mobsters and tough-guy characters in both film and television. Before becoming a household name on The Sopranos, he appeared in acclaimed films including Goodfellas, Awakenings, and Carlito’s Way.

His portrayal of Big Pussy Bonpensiero, one of Tony Soprano’s closest friends who later became an FBI informant, remains one of the most memorable performances in television history. The role earned him worldwide recognition and helped make The Sopranos one of the most influential drama series ever produced.

Following news of his death, tributes poured in from former co-stars and fans. Actor Michael Imperioli remembered Pastore as a “kind-hearted brother” and longtime friend, praising his generosity, warmth, and dedication to family and colleagues.

Born in the Bronx, Pastore served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War before pursuing acting later in life. He is survived by his daughter, Renee Pastore.
